FLATMATES Ana Dart, 24, and Carol Fitch, 26, have taken up the fight against breast cancer by organising a charity dinner dance.

The two women, from Queensmead Road, High Wycombe, decided to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer by taking up the Breakthrough £1,000 challenge as both have had family members contract the disease and later be given the all clear.

The challenge for the two friends is to raise £1,000 for the charity, at which point they receive a plaque to mark the achievement.

Miss Fitch said: "By taking up the Breakthrough £1,000 Challenge we hope to help increase awareness of the disease as well as finding a way to stop it and we hope that lots of people will want to support us."

A 15-piece swing band has been hired for the dance, which is called the June Bug Ball, at the Royal British Legion, in Queensmead Road, Loudwater, on Saturday, June 18. Steve Ludlow, from the Mix 107 Big Fun Breakfast show, has agreed to compere the evening. A silent auction and a raffle have also been arranged.

Miss Fitch added: "We think this is an exciting and fun way to raise the money for Breakthrough, getting your glad rags on and enjoying a fantastic meal and then dancing the night away.

"We have had an amazing response from local businesses willing to donate items and experiences to our raffle and silent auction, and we hope that the goodwill already shown will be reciprocated in the bidding. More than 1,000 women die every month from breast cancer and it can affect anyone of any age."

Anyone who would like to attend the June Bug Ball, or to bid in the silent auction can visit www.junebugball.co.uk or call 01494 452960.
