HIGH Wycombe mum Sarah Lewis has decided to brave the harsh climes of the Andes in support of Marie Curie Cancer care.

Mrs Lewis, 38, is taking part in the charity's Inca Trail trek in Peru where she will hike through rainforests, climb mountains and see the world famous Lost City of Machu Picchu.

The 38-year-old mum said: "My grandfather died 21 years ago from cancer when I was 17.

"Unfortunately he was not given the opportunity to die at home.

"Marie Curie gives people that opportunity."

The trek, later this summer, will be a strenuous challenge for Sarah as she has to climb mountains more than 4,000ft high.

Mrs Lewis said the trek is even more challenging for her as she joined the trekking group late after discovering the good work of organisations like Marie Curie.

However, she will remain grounded in the UK unless she can raise £2,500, which goes to Marie Curie and covers travelling costs, to go on the adventure.

Mrs Lewis said that the response from the companies she has already contacted has been mixed, and is leaving her short of the full funds.

According to the cancer charity, 40 per cent of the population will be afflicted by cancer at some point in their lives.

But due to the help of charities like Marie Curie, many people can overcome the illness, or by alleviated from much of the final pain.
