A NEW swimming pool aimed at attracting members of Wycombe's Asian community is being planned at Millbrook Combined School in Sands.
Discussions are underway between the school, Bucks County Council and Wycombe Leisure Ltd to renovate an existing pool that has been closed for the past two years. It is hoped the pool, which will be enclosed, will encourage more people in the town to become active swimmers. Rick Durrant, managing director of Wycombe Leisure Ltd, said: "The area has a high ethnic population and because it is in a school it is essentially private.
"This is important in terms of the cultural hurdles, many people do not feel they could swim in one of our public pools."
Mr Durrant added that he was keen to introduce more Asian swimming teachers.
The project has received some funding from the Big Lottery Fund, and is expected to cost up to £100,000 to complete.
It is hoped work on the pool will be complete by January next year.
