ANOTHER head at one of the county's grammar schools has announced her departure. That means that Buckinghamshire LEA is now looking for heads at five of its 13 grammar schools.

Hilary Winter, head at Dr Challoner's High School in Little Chalfont, is leaving next Easter. She joined the school in January 2003 from Ribston Hall High School, a girls grammar school in Gloucester where she was deputy head.

Mrs Winter, 52, told the Free Press she was leaving for personal and family reasons, which she did not want discuss.

"I love working here," she said. "The school is a brilliant place to work and the girls are so talented. But this is a decision I have to make."

She said she would not be moving to another job, but hoped to return to education eventually.

Mrs Winter a Geography and Religious Studies graduate of Durham University is married to a retired banker.

Last week we reported that Tim Dingle, head of the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe was also leaving at Easter to become head of a private school in Buenos Aires.

The head teacher at Aylesbury High School, Ruth Alinek left at the end of the summer term for personal reasons.

Elsewhere, head of the Royal Latin School in Buckingham, Cecilia Galloway, is leaving at the end of term after 13 years to become principal of The Methodist College, Belfast. Sue Powell, head of Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School in Aylesbury, is retiring.
