CLLR Maurice Oram is correct (Pavement works spark complaint, Marlow Free Press, September 23) in blaming much of the damage to pavements on the heavy vehicles that deliver to Sainsbury's and The Chequers.

However, what surprises me is his solution: "The hope is that the new pavement stones won't crack under the weight of these heavy lorries!" What are they doing on the pavement anyway?

Pavements used to be for pedestrians but their denizens already include cyclists, roller-skaters and skate-boarders.

Now not even lorries raise a councillor's eyebrow?
