CELEBRATING the end of the Second World War, the Methodists are putting on a concert tomorrow week to raise money for a new toilet for the disabled. It is being held at the Oak End Way Church with music, readings and newsreel items of the period, being interspersed with audience participation. It is at 7.30pm.

A RARE EVENING of sacred and secular music from Bach to Britten brings Lucy Winkett back to All Saints Church in Oval Way this evening. The former Dr Challoner's schoolgirl is now Canon Precentor at St Paul's Cathedral and she will be performing with her friends, Patrick Craig, counter tenor choral at St Paul's and a member of the Tallis Scholars who are renowned for their Renaissance music, and Mark Williams, assistant sub-organist at St Paul's. The fund-raising concert to celebrate the church centenary and fund a new church window, starts at 7pm. There should be tickets at the door but do call Paddy Hague on 01753 883384 to make sure.

50TH ANNUAL MEETING of the League of Friends of the Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross hospital is taking place at 2pm on Monday at All Saints Church hall. After the formalities Susie Richardson from the Public Health Department will give a talk about ageing.

LADIES from the Flower Club will be demonstrating their skills in the Station Road library on Wednesday. For an hour from 2pm they will be giving a Christmas Floral Demonstration, with refreshments following the event. It is free and all are welcome to pop along.

PRICES are being slashed for a one-day designer sale being held at the Memorial Centre tomorrow. It is on from 10am until 6.30pm.

DARTMOOR Letterboxing autumn family challenge is taking place in Black Park tomorrow. Starting between 10.30am and midday, contestants have to find boxes that the Rangers have secreted around the park. Meeting point is the Countryside Centre and costs are £5 for a family or £2.50 individuals and £1.50 concessions. For more details call 01753 511060.

LOCAL BRANCH of Macmillan Cancer Relief is putting on a Barn Dance at Chalfonts Community College in Chalfont St Peter tomorrow evening. The Berkshire Wheelwrights' Bane Folk Band will be providing the music. It is on from 7pm to 11.30pm and the £15 entrance includes a farmhouse supper. There is also a charity auction. ANOTHER charity event taking place tomorrow is the Padstones bridge evening, which raises money to support young homeless people in the neighbourhood. It is at 7pm at the Memorial Centre and tickets, including supper, are £20 per person. Beverley Stott on 01753 884153 is in charge of ticket allocations.

PARISH COUNCIL meets at the Memorial Centre on Monday evening at 8pm. Residents are welcome to attend to witness their councillors at work.
