A WOMAN attacked a Marlow postmistress because she couldn't get her own way as she tried to cash a giro cheque, a court heard.

But Alison Meakin, 48, of Sandygate Road, Marlow, who defended herself at Wycombe Magistrates Court on Tuesday, told the court that she "could not remember" hitting or kicking Sandra Kukreja at Marlow Post Office, on June 9, this year.

Meakin was also found guilty of assaulting a nurse at Wycombe Hospital and assaulting and harassing a neighbour. She is also serving an eight-week conviction for assaulting All Saints' Marlow Reverend Nicholas Molony.

In court on Tuesday, post office employee Ruth Miall, told the court how Meakin frequently came into the post office in Marlow High Street and described her as a "fierce" woman.

On the day of the attack there had been a dispute between Meakin and Mrs Kukreja about cashing the giro cheque.

Mrs Miall told the court: "Sandra was backing away towards the door and covering her head, there was a lot of screaming and all I saw was arms and legs going and I just knew Sandra was being hit."

Meakin questioned Mrs Miall's credibility and asked Judge Maitland Davies to take into account Mrs Miall's spent convictions, including shoplifting in 1992.

Meakin told the judge that she was on strong medication for a wide range of medical complaints including angina, urinary tract infection, asthma, kidney pain, personality disorder and erratic periods, which made her agitated and confused.

Rosemary Lake, prosecuting, told Meakin: "You get angry quite easily and you seem to use your illness as an excuse. I suggest that you lost your temper on June 9."

Meakin was found guilty by the court and was due to return for sentencing on November 30.
