Stuart Peacock, an ex-security guard from Bowerdean Road, High Wycombe, says he is brassed off at the cheek of MPs asking for a 22 per cent pay hike.

Mr Peacock, 65, thinks they should look how the rest of us live before grumbling.

When I saw MPs were asking for a huge pay rise I could not believe what I was reading."In my day I was lucky to get a 22p increase, let alone the 22 per cent they are after. They say they deserve it, but what do they do for us?

There are plenty of hard working people about who won't get anymore than a three per cent pay hike next year, and that's just inflation.

Sounds like a nice little sum to be getting just before Christmas. it would certainly come in handy.

These MPs get free travel and fancy houses in London all paid for by the likes of you and me.

In fact, everything us normal people have to put our hand into our pocket for they get for nothing.

So why do they need more money? It won't make them do their jobs any better, I'm sure.

If you look at what they do, I can't see how they justify their money.

As far as I can tell they just sit there in Parliament and argue about things.

Nothing ever gets done. Nothing ever changes. Except their bank balances of course.

I'm sure they are doing very nicely.

I know the MPs that live up in the north say they need expenses for all their travelling down to London, but they get a good pay packet as it is.

If they are struggling for cash, I have got a great idea for them. Why don't they phone each other up, and arrange to go down together in one car.

That would save them a few bob and help keep our taxes down.
