ON behalf of the High Wycombe Royal British Legion poppy appeal, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to this year's annual appeal.

Through collections in superstores, shopping centres, shops, offices, factories, schools, churches and mosques, a magnificent total of £38,444.16 was raised in High Wycombe for the welfare of thosde in need.

This is a wonderful amount of money which will be used to support the widows and children of those service personnel who have lost their lives in the Service of our Country whilst fighting for the freedom of democracy throughout the world, and against terrorism.

It also goes towardsmaintaining and updating convalescent homes and hospitals where many ex-servicemen and women will spend the remainder of their lives.

On their behalf I want to thank each and every person who bought a poppy and gave up their time to hold a collecting tin. Your small act of kindness can make a world of difference.

A special thank you to the poppy appeal organisers who work tirelessly for many months to ensure that poppies are available to buy in so many different outlets.

Cllr Liaquat Ali, Mayor of High Wycombe, Wycombe District Council
