A NEW book on Wycombe's first Afro-Caribbean mayor is set to reveal how well the town's many different cultures live together in harmony.

One People Mayor A Journey, published this week, talks about the achievements of Sebert Graham, 65, a Wycombe resident who was the town's mayor from 1996 to 1997.

He emigrated to England in his 20s from Jamaica and on becoming mayor did a lot of work for the town's Afro-Caribbean community, including setting up the Hilltop Community Centre in Crest Road.

During this time Mr Graham, of Chairborough Road, was also made aware of how well the many different cultures live together in the town.

He said: "When I was on the council I often said that regardless of what was happening in race relation in various parts of the country, here we are lucky because people get on well."

Author of the book Ian Mulder, 63, of West Wycombe Road, said: "What's nice about the book is that it makes people feel interested and proud of the place that they live in."

The book is on sale in the Chilterns Shopping Centre until Christmas Eve. Mr Graham will be signing copies.
