Cliveden was built for the Duke of Sutherland in 1851 and designed by Charles barry, architect of the Houses of Parliament.

This spectacular estate is set high on cliffs overlooking the River Thames.

It was the family home of the Astors and a meeting place for the hub of political and literary society in the early part of the 20th century.

Today the house is let as a private hotel, part of which is open to National Trust visitors on Thursday and Sunday afternoons (April to October).
