ROAD bosses have no plans to improve the route between High Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville hospitals, the mayor of Princes Risborough has revealed.

The revelation came at a meeting of Princes Risborough Town Council on Tuesday and is contrary to assurances made by Buckinghamshire County Council at the beginning of February, when it proclaimed the A4010 would be its top priority.

Mayor Cllr Gary Hall told his fellow councillors: "I attended the transport symposium with Bucks County Council on the third and they have no plans to do anything about the road.

"There was absolutely no mention of it in their five year plans. They said nothing could be done unless they receive Government funding for it as part of a regional road building scheme."

As reported in the Free Press on February 10, Gary Emmerson, BCC head of transport said the route was a crucial north-south link through the county and required more money pouring into it even calling it their "number one strategic priority".

Speaking after the meeting on Tuesday, Mr Hall said: "It is very disappointing but not that surprising. We all know funding is tight.

"The road must have been built 60 odd years ago and is not designed to take the amount of traffic using it today.

"We've been asking the county council to improve it for the past 18 months, in particular the stretch between High Wycombe and Princes Risborough and with the amount of emergency and ambulance traffic the road is now supporting, it is especially urgent.

"We are very concerned about it and will keep putting pressure on the county to do something about it."

Mike Knight, BCC transport division area manager said: "That is a perfectly valid comment to make and any requests will be considered on an annual basis as part of our five-year priorities."
