A SECURITY guard's car was stolen from outside a Royal British Legion club and used in an attempted ram raid on a Bourne End shop.

Marin Zdanowski's red Vauxhall Astra hatchback was taken from outside the club on the Common, Flackwell Heath, between 10.15pm and 11.50pm on Saturday, March 4.

It was driven into the Corner's Newsagent in Oakland Road, between 1am and 1.20am.

The impact smashed the front window of the shop, but heavy metal bars on the inside and outside stopped the attackers getting in. The group of men sped away, and the car was later found abandoned in nearby Blind Lane.

One of the men was wearing a blue hooded top with white stripes across the back, and there were an unknown number of others in the car.

Mr Zdanowski, 55, from Oakland Road, Flackwell Heath, has been a security guard at the Chiltern Shopping Centre in High Wycombe for six months. He said no one realised the car had been taken until he left the club and found it gone.

There was no sign of smashed glass, and the former windscreen fitter believes the thieves forced the lock on the G-reg car which was worth about £400.

Mr Zdanowski, 55, of Oakland Road, Flackwell Heath, said: "The first I heard about the ram raid was when I came into the club on Tuesday and everyone was taking the mickey out of me.

"My job makes it a bit unfortunate this has happened. The police haven't contacted me about it and I didn't know they had found my car. I don't know how much damage there is."

He said that he would look around for a new car. He added: "There's no use crying over spilt milk."

The owner of Corner's Newsagents, Kultar Chopra, 25, said that the tenants in the flat above his shop had called the police when the attack happened.

He said: "We were lucky we survived and nothing was taken because of the metal bars on the windows. There is some damage to the door which we will have to wait for the insurance company to pay for."

PC Richard Bazeley from Thames Valley Police said anyone who had seen the car around the time of the attack should contact police on 0845 5 808 808. The car registration number is G504 EPF
