THE High Wycombe Multiple Sclerosis Society will be benefiting from the work of a one-woman hiking mission.

Susan Vincett, of Green Street, High Wycombe is taking a break from work to trek around the Lake District for six days and raise as much money as possible.

A full-time live-in carer Susan, 58, has looked after MS sufferer Trevor Hadlow for nine years and has already got together £400 from sponsorship, pledges and collection tins.

The idea to do the walk "snowballed" after Susan suggested it to her friends and she has called her walk Memory Lane as she was brought up in the Lake District.

She said: "I do like to get out and do some walking, but as a live in carer I don't get an awful lot of chance. I wanted to do it for people like Trevor as MS is a horrible, debilitating disease."

Susan is hoping to walk ten miles a day and she will cover 50 miles of hilly terrain.

She added that it will "probably be hilly and wet, but I shall just crack on and go at my own pace."

She will set off from Barrow on June 4 while Trevor, 56, will go into respite care in Southport.

He said: "I think it's great that she's doing it.

"I'm going to phone her every day so that I know in my mind that she's safe and where she is."

This is not the first time Susan has walked to raise funds for MS, having taken part in the national Big Foot walk in 2003 when she raised £1,700.

Trevor added: "The nice thing about this walk is that all the funds raised are going to go towards local people with MS.

"It will go towards supporting their needs."

If you would like to make a donation you can send a cheque to Trevor at 1 Gilbert House, Green Street, High Wycombe HP11 2RL.

Cheques should be made payable to the Multiple Sclerosis Society High Wycombe and District Branch.
