HUNDREDS of riders braved the rain for a charity bike ride through the Chiltern countryside on Sunday.

Pedalpush 2006 was organised by the High Wycombe Rotary Club to raise money for Saunderton charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and The Stroke Association.

The route took riders from The Rye in High Wycombe past Hughenden Valley and into the countryside on their choice of a 50 or 20-mile round trip.

Half of the money raised by each rider will go to the two nominated charities, with the other half going to a charity of the biker's choice.

Les Hubbard, from the Rotary Club, said everybody had enjoyed themselves despite the miserable weather.

He said: "We all came back very wet but it went very well. I think we have raised a considerable amount of money for the charities."

Mr Hubbard said he expects the event to return next year.
