UPDATE: This event has now been postponed from this weekend until a date to be confirmed, after the General Election.

A CAMPAIGN to get High Wycombe walking is set to be launched by its mayor, Cllr Julie Pritchard.

To help local walkers, five notice boards have been installed around the town centre, on which 3D maps highlight three new walks – Town Walk, Heritage Walk and Rye Walk.

Walk Wycombe is a Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) initiative with Wycombe District Council, NHS Buckinghamshire, Bucks Sport and the High Wycombe Town Centre Partnership.

Buckinghamshire County Council's Head of TfB, Jim Stevens, said: “This is a fantastic achievement by all the teams involved.

"Walk Wycombe will open up new opportunities for walking in the town to access key facilities such as Wycombe General Hospital and The Rye.

"Promoting the use of more sustainable forms of travel like walking will help tackle congestion and promote good health.”

Walking route planners have also been created for High Wycombe on the website www.walkit.com Walkers can plan a route between any two points, including journey time, calorie burn, step count, and carbon saving.
