THE High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire made a special visit to Great Kingshill to open the new and refurbished play areas for children and teenagers.
Allan Westray officially opened the new facilities on the common which have been refurbished and enhanced including a new ball wall.
As earlier reported the ball wall caused some controversy with residents in the area who said the metal structure was not sympathetic with the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Great Kingshill Residents Association declined to attend the opening ceremony and said the parish council is aware of their views on the development.
Peggy Ewart, chairman of Hughenden Parish Council, said: “All the feedback we have had by people who use it has been extremely positive.
“Everyone has said what super facility it is to have on the recreation ground.
“I think there is so much positive reaction that once it is all up and running and everyone sees what a super facility it is everyone will get used to it.”
A new teen area for aged 12 and above has been created in one corner.
The parish council obtained a grant for the equipment from the Department of Children, Schools and Families, through Buckinghamshire County Council and Wycombe District Council.
There has also been concerns raised about the position of the play area next to the Great Kingshill Cricket Club over children's safety.
Hughenden Parish Council has agreed to put up netting during the cricket season.
