AN engineer was taken to hospital with burns to his face and hands after accidentally cutting through the mains power cable at a bank Wednesday morning – leaving the branch closed.

The man, 35, who was working for an alarms company at HSBC in Marlow High Street suffered an electric shock.

Nobody else was injured in the accident.

South Central Ambulance Service were called at 9.57am and a rapid response vehicle and ambulance three minutes later.

The ambulance rushed the man to Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Fire crews from Maidenhead and High Wycombe attended after responding to a 999 call just after 10am this morning.

There had been reports of smoke but there was no fire.

It is not thought the man's injuries are critical, HSBC said.

HSBC spokesman James Thorpe said: “The branch is currently closed as an engineer accidentally cut through the mains power cable.

“He has suffered burns and has been taken to hospital.

“No HSBC member of staff or any of our customers were injured, however the branch will remain closed until we can get the power up and running again.”

The branch opened as normal this morning (Thursday).

The Health and Safety Executive said it is aware of the accident and is making further enquiries.
