A LANDMARK sign and community area designed to “put the heart back into the community” is to be created in Wycombe Marsh.

The Wycombe Local Community Partnership will donate £1,250 towards a “classic village sign”, which will be erected on the 'roundabout' at the junction of Abbey Barn Road with Beech Road and Ford Street.

Local ward members, Cllr Peter Cartwright, Cllr Ray Farmer and Cllr Trevor Snaith all agreed to donate money towards plants and greenery for the project at last night's partnership meeting.

Cllr David Shakespeare, who was not at the meeting held in the Council Chamber of Wycombe District Council, will also be asked to help fund the scheme.

Cllr Snaith praised the committee for giving its backing to the community landmark project and has now set his sights on a street party to mark the unveiling in the summer.

He said: “It's brilliant news and great to be able to put the heart back into the Wycombe Marsh and give residents a real sense of belonging.

“It will be a community area at the roundabout, which isn't a roundabout, with an authentic, classic village sign.

“We're not sure what will be on it yet but we've all got our thinking caps on and I would also like to thank everyone involved for making this happen.

“And hopefully we can get the mayor down and throw a really nice street party to mark the unveiling of the community area around July time and to reintegrate community spirit.”
