A MAN and his son needed hospital treatment after a kitchen fire at a house in Hazlemere.
The homeowner had tried to tackle the fire himself – but had to be taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Crews from High Wycombe and Great Missenden were called to the incident in Inkerman Drive at 7.54pm on Tuesday evening.
Watch Manager Jon Franklin from High Wycombe Fire Station said: "We were very concerned when we arrived because the man initially stayed in the house to try to tackle the fire himself.
"Our advice in these circumstances is always to get out, stay out and call 999. We'll be there in minutes with the right equipment and protective clothing to deal with it without the householder having to be exposed to any further risk.
"We were also concerned that there were no smoke alarms in the house. A smoke alarm will go off in the early stages of a fire and give you precious extra time to make your escape."
A third occupant at the house, the man's wife, did not need hospital treatment.
