FIRSTLY, thank you to the Bucks Free Press for taking up the cause to throw out these proposals for High Speed Rail in the Chilterns. The more you look at the proposals the more you question the actions of the Government.

Firstly it is the Government’s intention only to consult on the route through Amersham and Wendover. This could mean that no consultation takes place either for the Exceptional Hardship Scheme or on the damage caused by their preferred 2nd option, route 2.5, through Hughenden North Dean, Lacey Green, Loosley Row, Horsenden, Bledlow, Longwick and Haddenham.

None of these villages themselves have the population numbers to make the same impact as Amersham and Wendover. So what if the game plan is to listen to these and then, without consultation, go ahead with route 2.5? It is for this reason everybody should insist that ALL routes get the same access to the process and the right to have their views heard. As the closing date for the Exceptional Hardship Scheme is May 20, time is already running out.

Paul Rogerson, County Councillor, Icknield and Bledlow.
