THE lease of the Royal British Legion branch in Princes Risborough will be put up for sale once more.

Spokesman for the Royal British Legion Robert Lee said it is true the hall in Bell Street will be put back on the market but he did not know why the previous buyer was no longer in the running.

He said: “We will continue working with the branch to try and ensure a base for their activities. The club itself will be re-tendered on the open market.”

The lease of the club was put up for sale last year after the New Legion Club was no longer making money.

Although the town council put in a bid to buy the lease it was given to a “preferred bidder” who was thought to be a property developer.

On Friday a group from the branch descended on Legion HQ in London to present 1.500 signatures from people in Princes Risborough to save the hall and keep it as a community facility.

Alan Turner, chairman of the branch's action committee, said: “The branch will now set about submitting a business plan in an effort to get the lease returned to us.”

He added the branch are allowed to retain a presence there and will be able to continue to make the hall available to hire to the public, although there will be no alcohol sales as the pumps have been removed by the brewery.
