THE suggestion for Princes Risborough to move away from Wycombe District Council to Aylesbury Vale was last night quashed as town councillors voted against it.

Councillor Walford Woolf suggested Princes Risborough Town Council support a vote no confidence in Wycombe District Council. But only one other councillor, Eunice Clifford, agreed.

At the town council meeting four councillors, including Bill Bendyshe-Brown and Dennis Green who are also district councillors, voted against it, five abstained from the vote and Gary Hall declared an interest as he is a district councillor.

Cllr Woolf said: “As Wycombe District has given us less than whole hearted support to save Molins, Wycombe are challenging us for CCTV services when every one else's is free and with Wycombe and the recent gypsy site consultation- most of the 11 sites are in and around the Risborough area and none around Wycombe and Marlow.

“Throughout Bucks, towns have gone for a move of authority. I propose we put a vote of no confidence in Wycombe District for the way they have treated us over these issues and also look at the possibility of moving to Aylesbury Vale District Council.”

Cllr Will Streule said he agreed with Cllr Woolf on some points but he did not know what Aylesbury Vale had to offer. He said: “I think they [WDC] see us as a tucked away back water. I don't think they treat the district as other councils across the country do.”

Cllr Bill Bendyshe-Brown, who is also a district councillor, said Wycombe District Council (WDC) have done the town “a lot of good”.

He said: “I really think that we, as an organisation, will be putting ourselves up to be knocked down quite badly. WDC for all its faults, and it has faults, but bet your bottom dollar so does AVDC. At the end of the day we have got to work with WDC.”

Wycombe District Councillor Ron Gaffney, who lives in Saunderton, said: “I don't think a vote of no confidence is the right way forward. I think it is terrible a town council should even think about it.

“Risborough is an integral part of our district, just like Marlow, Hazlemere and everywhere else. We can't have town councils dictating a vote of no confidence- it is a matter of principle.

“Certainly the suggestion of having a vote of no confidence in WDC isn't going to win any friends.”
