Michael Grade, CBE, former Executive Chairman of ITV and currently Non-Executive Chairman of several companies, visited Amersham & Wycombe College last week as the special guest in a College TV production - An Audience With...

TV Production students fired questions at Mr Grade during a lively debate that lasted over an hour.

In addition to passing on hugely beneficial advice to students, questions raised drew answers about former TV clean-up campaigner Mary Whitehouse, a cancelled Dr Who TV series while he was at the BBC and the Corporation’s coverage of the tragic IRA bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton, where Conservative party members were staying.

“It’s very rewarding to be able to offer the benefit of 30 years of experience in the business to students who want to get into the television industry,” explained Michael. “You can get on if you have what it takes in this industry and it’s still a very exciting business to enter. Nowadays, by the time students leave College to gain a foothold in TV production, they have already been exposed to an unbelievable amount of technology and can slot straight in to the job. When I was a lad, TV production was very much a mystic art.”

This is the second time Michael Grade has visited the College to offer advice to students and the event was a major highlight on the College’s calendar.
