MARY Towerton School in Studley Green has a long and varied history and pupils and staff want to discover more about its heritage.

The Hamlet Historians will be at the school's summer fete this Saturday and are inviting people to share their memories of their time in the village.

Mary Towerton opened in 1976 when the Beacons Bottom school closed and they want to hear from pupils who went to both schools.

The children have been learning about the school's history in class and have discovered some old black and white photos- one of which was taken just after the Second World War and the other from about 30 years ago.

Headteacher Sarah Leighton said: “We need your help. We are putting together a history archive and want to talk to anyone who has interesting memories of living in the village of going to either of the schools.”

An evacuee who came to the village during the war is making a return visit on Saturday.

The exhibition created so far of the history of the village will be on display and there will also be maypole dancing, a BBQ, face painting and stalls.

The fete has a recycle and re-use theme to highlight the schools sustainability plans including having their own vegetable patch.

Mrs Leighton added: “Not many people know we are here but our catchment area reaches to Booker, Cressex and from all over the Wycombe area.

“The school has an incredibly important role in keeping the community together.”

The fete will also hold special memories of a lady who worked closely with the school. Mrs Leighton said: “We would like to dedicate the joy and happy memories of this fete to Ruth Butwell, a much loved former parent and chair of the friends of Mary Towerton who sadly died at the end of May.

“We owe a huge debt of gratitude for the loving contribution she made to the life of our school.”

The event runs from 12-3pm at the school's grounds in Studley Green.
