TELEVISION sports presenter Steve Rider teed off with more than 80 golfers to help raise funds for a new hockey pitch.

The football frontman, who recently left ITV, was the star guest at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School golf day.

This year's event aimed to raise cash for the school's hockey teams and the new Astroturf pitch at Marlow Sports Club’s Pound Lane – where they will play.

Many hockey Olympians played including current Great Britain star Simon Mantell who presented the prizes. Other players were President of the England Hockey Board, Simon Mason, and men’s team National Coach Jason Lee.

It took place at Temple Golf Club in Berkshire on Wednesday June 9. A team called ‘Like Clockwork’ triumphed with the most points.

Team Captain Nigel Woolven, Simon Mantell, Andrew Steele and Mark Hoskin were delighted with the.

Borlase’s P.E. department team - Kevin Chappell, Craig Robertson, Jason and Laura Lee - came a close second. Keith Gordon won the nearest the pin competition, Phil McGuire the longest drive and the gambling hole was won by Dave Leggert.

The day is sponsored by many businesses in the Marlow area, all of whom sponsor a hole and the event raised £3,800. Organiser Sally Woolven said: “We are really grateful to all those who support the day both players and sponsors and it’s fantastic to be able to support hockey at Borlase School and Marlow Sports Club in such an enjoyable way.”
