A MOTORIST was left red-faced after he accidentally reversed into the River Wye today.
A stunned customer of the Sytner BMW garage in London Road watched on as the driver of the dark blue BMW unintentionally put the car into reverse and took the plunge.
The man, who is believed to have suffered only minor injuries in the accident, was met at the scene by his wife before he pulled out a fold-up bicycle from the boot and pedalled home.
Sarah Gray, 30, of Gray Mechanical Services, had taken her car to the garage for a service.
She said: “As I got there, two tow trucks had just turned up and the poor chap was then getting out of the river.
“I spoke to someone at the garage and the guy had basically got in the car, accidentally put it in reverse, put his foot to the floor and drove into the river.
“I looked at him and he was chuckling to himself, I think he had a few scratches but nothing serious, his wife had come down and I saw him hug her.
“The garage blocked off the entrance for a few minutes while they pulled the car up and out of the river – the car looked a sorry state.
“But the funniest thing was, he walked back to his car and pulled out a fold-out bike from the boot and just rode off down the road – it was one of the funniest things I've seen.”
