TELFORD Way in Downley is an area over-populated by cars with insufficient parking bay facilities for its residents.

Virtually everyday though, I witness a man, who actually works in the town centre, parking his car, then walking down the nearby alleyway into the town. Although most times the car has gone in the evening, this can be long after the actual residents have returned home and tried to get any remaining space to park. Sometimes his car is left parked overnight.

There are other similar instances of non-residents leaving their cars here all day.

I wonder, would they appreciate people doing this where they live?

Students from the halls of residence in Hughenden Avenue also have a negative impact and are a source of annoyance to residents. Since completion of the campus last September, there have been instances whereby cars are being parked in Telford Way and the occupants of these vehicles then walk off to the campus. Apparently before Christmas other roads locally were suffering the same fate.

I personally was opposed to the building of the residences from the start for this very reason... students have no on site parking facility and we residents knew this nuisance parking would be an issue.

At present, there is one particular student who parks his car for days on end whilst he goes about his business elsewhere.

After a day at work (or not as the case may be), the least I expect, is to be able to park my car somewhere near my house without having to resort to parking on the main road – which in itself causes a problem for passing traffic – whilst various non residents make use of the limited parking bay resources.
