THIS is a letter from a reader who enclosed a cutting of an article from a local paper in Devon, entitled ‘Lido splashes into summer’. The piece included a picture of swimmers in a large open air pool. High Wycombe’s outdoor pool at Holywell Mead was closed last year by the district council to save money.

I WOULD like to use a swimming pool as the weather is good, but no, we don’t have one any more, only an indoor one up at Handy Cross.

You will only roast like a turkey in an oven, up at that place, but people like myself like to lie down on grass and relax, like the good folk down at Teignmouth in South Devon.

The picture [enclosed with the letter] was taken on May 7th. The silly thing is the sea is just 40 yards away from the pool, with a nice promenade and pier.

I have been coming to this great place for years. Their council (Teignbridge District) like to help the locals unlike this lot up here.

Let’s face it, with the sea next to the Lido they could have said let’s do away with the pool. Well no.

Wycombe District Council are a hopeless outfit and appear only interested in making money. It [swimming] is supposed to be healthy and good for you!

I hope you enjoy the picture. Regulars to the pool can buy passes from May to September for £42 for adults and £25 for kids. It’s a good idea. Can you print this in the MBucks Free Press and embarrass them (WDC)?

I can’t wait to live down in Devon.
