A SCHOOL field in Bourne End was transformed into the 'land of the free' on Sunday as hundreds turned out for an Indepenence Day summer fair.

Line dancing and American-themed games stalls entertained the crowds at Claytons School fair, which was organised by the PTA.

Amanda Collins, the PTA chairman, said: “It all went really well, we had loads of people and hopefully we've raised more than £2,000, which was last year's total."

She said one of the highlights was a karaoke duet by headteacher David Orford and Mrs Aldridge, who sang 'Is this the way to Amarillo'.

The money raised will help regenerate the school pond and pay for some new playground equipment.
