INVADERS from outer space took over the streets of Princes Risborough as the town got into festival mood.

A 300 strong space themed children's parade - kicked off the town festival on Saturday – with about 2,000 onlookers witnessing the alien scene.

Veteran cars gearing up for the Kop Hill Climb and the new community bus also featured.

The main event, held at King George V playing field in Wellington Avenue, attracted many families.

A climbing wall, carousel, bouncy castle and various dance and music routines – including Wycombe Steel Band and a samba band - entertained summer revellers.

Town Festival chairman Trevor Fitch said: “We've been lucky with the weather and the organisation behind it has probably been the best it has ever been.

“The children were fantastic this year I think more effort went in than ever before.

“There must have been 2,000 people watching the parade in the High Street which is great.”

Funds from the day will go to the threatened Risborough Care charity.

The service helping the elderly and those with mental health, learning or physical disabilities is under threat of closure.

On Sunday The Princes Risborough 10k run took place – with 285 runners crossing the finishing line.

Race spokesman Colin Steptoe said it had been a close fought race.

The winner was Anurahda Cooray.
