I DOUBT if home supporters of Premier League football will be put off by the indifferent performance of England in the World Cup as Charles Mann suggests (Mann on Friday, July 2).
They may have been dubious about their clubs having, de facto, to lend these players to the national side, as they are too skilled and prominent to be honoured by this, and therefore grateful that they did not so overdo their efforts or take unnecessary risk.
None, I think, were injured, so they will be ready to line up with their home sides when the season re-starts next month.
Anyway win or lose, it was all part of a jolly national celebration of football. Home supporters are home supporters, not analysts. Analysis can be left to the paid commentators.
If there is a downside to all this it is that admission prices have become so high that many traditional supporters cannot afford to attend or cannot afford to take their family.
