THE son of a late Labour leader ran in his father's footsteps and took part in the Wycombe Half Marathon raising money for the Mayor's Appeal.

Paul Galbraith crossed the finish line in one hour, 52 minutes and 39 seconds as part of the appeal team, which included Cllrs Trevor Snaith and Ray Farmer.

His dad Glyn Galbraith, who was leader of the Labour party for Wycombe District Council, died last February at the age of 54 after suffering from a heart attack.

He was returning home after one of his regular Saturday morning runs with Cllr Snaith.

Paul, 22, said: “I have been running since I was 16. Mainly when I run the Great North Run I do it for the British Heart Foundation.

“I was quite interested in running because of my dad. It was something I enjoyed with him.”

Mayor of High Wycombe Jane White chose the Pepper Foundation, which provides funding for a nursing team for seriously ill children, for the Mayor's Appeal this year which the team raised £260 for.

Paul, from Keep Hill Drive, said:” I chose this as it is a very worthwhile charity and seemed appropriate as I was running in Wycombe.”

Liberal Democrats Cllrs Snaith and Farmer carried buckets during the race to collect donations.

Paul added: “I have run with Trevor for a while- I enjoy a bit of competition. As long as I beat him I am quite happy.”

Paul's running challenges are not stopping there as he is planning to do the Great Run and the Windsor Half Marathon next.
