ANCHORWOMAN Mary Nightingale was the headline act when she returned to her former Medmenham primary school to open a new teaching block.
The ITV newsreader visited Danesfield School to celebrate the completion of The Lewis Wing.
She was joined by Marlow Mayor Roger Wilson to cut the ribbon and put the seal on four years of planning, fundraising and building for the Year Six classrooms.
Speaking to the children the presenter revealed that she can still remember all the names of her former classmates.
And she added that she thoroughly enjoyed her time attending the primary school more than 30 years ago.
The development was named in honour of headteacher Derry Lewis who is set to retire in spring 2011 after 15 years at the school’s helm.
Mr Lewis said: “I know I will feel rather sad when I leave but I am very honoured to have this new wing named after me.
“I never dreamt that one day there would be a building with my name on it. “I have had over fifteen wonderful years at Danesfield and will miss the children and staff, many of whom I regard as friends.”
The completion of the Lewis Wing marks the first stage in the school’s planned expansion and improvement works.
Among the proposed changes are the provision of toilets for younger children, a new school office and a second hall.
Fundraising work is ongoing and the school welcomes any interested sponsors to get in contact.
