MORE than 100 woolly hats have been knitted by pupils from Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School to support a charity appeal.

The school’s Knitting Club put its needles together to help Save the Children’s ‘Knit One Save One’ campaign.

Charity representative Sue Jordan paid the students a visit to thank them for the 134 hats made and donated to the cause.

It is estimated that 50 per cent of newborn babies born in some areas of Tibet and Pakistan die of hyperthermia before the end of their first week.

“For many students the Knitting Club has provided the opportunity to learn a new skill while doing something for charity,” said school learning mentor, Fiona Bennett, who created the club.

Mrs Bennett added that the club is already planning its next knitting charity push.
