A GRANDAD is fuming because of the slow response from a council about mould in his home which he said is making his 4-year-old granddaughter ill.

Graham Piggott said he has continually asked Wycombe District Council to solve the problem at his house in Mount Pleasant, Lane End.

The 52-year-old said there is green mould coming through the roof of his bedroom which his daughter, Sarah, 23 shares with her daughter, Francesca, four.

Mr Piggott, who is a HGV driver, said: “It is terrible. My little granddaughter is always ill. She has been having time off school because she has been ill.”

He said he reported the problem at least two months ago and has not had any “positive action” from the council.

He was he was advised to keep the windows open and turn the heating on but he said he does not want to waste gas. He said what really needs to be done is to replace the whole roof. He used to be a roofer for 15 years.

Mr Piggott added: “I am very disappointed. They could have done something by now. We have had a couple of weeks of nice weather and they could have done something.”

He also shares the four bedroom house with his three sons, Jamie, 27, Carl, 26, and Stuart, 21 and wife, Criena, 52.

He added: “Every time we ring them all they say is we are sorting it out.”

Spokesman for Wycombe District Council, Catherine Spalton, said: “Our repairs team has visited the property and established that roof damage caused by internal and external sources has contributed to this problem.

“We have advised the tenant to ventilate the affected room(s) to reduce condensation, which can contribute to mould growth. Now that we are aware of the damage to the roof, our aim is to repair it as soon as possible.”
