THE pub trade in Wycombe Marsh has undergone further upheavals in recent weeks, with the Disraeli closing its doors until further notice.

There is no sign on the door explaining the closure of the Ford Street pub, but owners Enterprise Inns responded to enquiries with a short statement this week, saying it 'hopes to have it open in the near future'.

The Swan, which is round the corner on Abbey Barn Road, closed last year and is listed for rent by an estate agent.

It is described as a “character property with potential for retail or office use”.

The brewery which owns the King George V pub, on London Road, has brought in Paul and Lesley Frost, who are experienced landlords who work for a holding company.

Paul, 46, said: “There's a lot of pubs closing down and it's hard work at the moment. This is a lovely little pub and we are starting to do food. We've built the trade up quite well in the last six weeks.”

He said the Disraeli being closed is likely to hit rather than help trade, however, as people will be less likely to come to the area for a night out.

The General Havelock, on Kingsmead Road, is the only other pub currently open in the Marsh.

The Halfway House on London Road has now been demolished for a property development, and the former Red Lion, opposite the retail park, is boarded up.
