RGS HIGH Wycombe will lock its gates next Wednesday and take 17 coach loads of supporters to Twickenham for their U15s Daily Mail Cup Final against The Truro School.

In total, about 1,500 RGS supporters are expected to be at the game. It’s the first time the school has been to Rugby HQ in more than a decade and they plan to make the most of it.

Director of Sport Liam Doubler said: “It’s brilliant for the school. It’s great to be back there, we’ve not been there for so long and we’ve got such a proud rugby tradition.

“The boys have been brilliant this year. They’re a hard-working bunch and thoroughly deserve this chance.

“But we don’t want to go there to make up the numbers, we want to win it and I believe we’ve got the game to win it.”

RGS booked their place on the grand stage with a 15-14 victory over The Perse School in February.

Since then focus has been trained exclusively on the final with a match against Stowe called off to avoid the risk of injury.

Doubler said: “The boys only have eyes for Twickenham now and if you go in half-hearted you will pick up injuries.”

Further, Wasps stars Jack Wallace and Christian Wade were back at their old school to help RGS prepare for the final on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Truro booked their place in the final with a similarly close last-four win over pre-tournament favourites Whitgift.

Doubler said: “They played their semi after ours so we watched them then and also got a video of the game so we’ve done our analysis and picked out a few boys to watch.”

A forward kicking penalties from outside 40m is an obvious danger, but Doubler believes there is actually not much to chose between the two.

He said: “We’ve had a full month to prepare and if the boys aren’t over-awed I think it will be awesome. I don’t think they will be, they are a pretty level-headed bunch until they pick up their kit bags. That’s their cue to start focussing.”

RGS Wycombe travel down to Twickenham next Tuesday to familiarise themselves with the stadium before checking into a hotel near the ground with the other finalists. Kick-off is 12.30.
