TO be able to play a violin while lying on the floor and moving your legs to the beat is no mean feat and that is just one of the things which makes the musical, Chess, so impressive.

Showing at the Wycombe Swan until Saturday the ultra-polished production is a sight to behold with amazing costumes, fantastic set design and faultless choreography.

The show is directed by Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood and has a company of actors and musicians from the West End.

The story follows the battle between two world class chess players but the fight is not just in chess but also for one woman.

The theatre was packed and I can see why. The singing was note perfect and it was refreshing to see such a highly polished professional production.

Shona White, who plays Florence Vassy, was amazing as she has the most powerful and impressive voice. James Fox as Freddie Trumper and Daniel Koek as Anatoly Sergievsky are also fantastic as the two men vying for her affection.

But it was the chess pieces who most intrigued me as they moved around the stage and played musical instruments while singing, dancing and strutting their stuff.

Written by Tim Rice and Abba's Bjorn Ulvaeus Benny Anderson the score includes the popular I Know Him So Well , One Night In Bangkok and Pity The Child.

It is a treat to have a musical of this quality at the Wycombe Swan and is worth going to see while it is still there.

It is on every night until Saturday at 7.30pm and there is a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets range from £25-£34. Call 01494512000 or go to www.wycombeswan.co.uk
