RESIDENTS are being encouraged to hold street parties for the Royal Wedding while 19 applications have been approved across the county.

Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29 which is going to be a public holiday.

Buckinghamshire County Council said it has approved 19 applications to date across the county.

Seven applications were made to Wycombe District Council.

South Bucks District Council has received nine- one of which has not been approved because of the location. Five have been approved and three are waiting for comments from the Safety Advisory Group.

Communities are being encouraged to hold parties which will be made easier by a joint working partnership between Buckinghamshire County Council, the district councils and Thames Valley Police.

Valerie Letheren, cabinet member for transport said:  “The Royal Wedding is an historic day and we are keen to help residents celebrate in their local communities.

“It is an ideal time to bring neighbours together to mark the day and I would encourage you to apply.  Applying online is straight forward and my team is already processing applications and approved 19 across the county to date.”

It is free to close an unclassified road, which would normally cost £1390, as the council said it recognises the importance of the day.
