PLANS for the £33bn High Speed 2 rail project can be seen up and close in coming weeks at a series of roadshows in the county.

Residents have been reminded to make a note in their diary to attend the meetings - and make their views clear in the Government consultation.

Buckinghamshire would be one of the most severely affected counties.

The line would cut directly through treasured countryside.

Widespread disruption is expected for years while the building takes place.

The movement against HS2 - which has seen the creation of numerous action groups up and down the country - is gathering pace.

Business leaders such as Simon Wolfson, Chief Executive at Next, and ex-Chancellor Nigel Lawson recently added their weight to the 'no' campaign.

They signed a letter, along with 19 other commerce chiefs recently, branding the scheme “an extremely expensive white elephant”.

Eleven roadshows take place in May.

Expert speakers, engineers, environmentalists and property specialists from HS2 Ltd and the Department for Transport, will explain the proposals in detail.

Buckinghamshire County Councillor Val Letheren is chairman of the joint project board representing the 13 local authorities opposing HS2.

She said: "I would urge everyone in Buckinghamshire to get involved in the consultation and make their views known.

"This is your chance to have your say on something which could have a dramatic impact on all of our lives."

The consultation is open until July 29.

The roadshows in and around Buckinghamshire are as follows.
