A BODY has been found after an extensive search by specialists in the River Thames.
Confirmation came through at 12.25pm after divers and rescue experts scoured an area of the river at Cookham Lock, in Odney Lane.
They were looking for a man, 59, who jumped in the River Thames last night to save his teenage daughter, police said.
The body appears to be the man being searched for, police told the Free Press just before 1pm.
Family members, who had been anxiously waiting at the scene for news, made an identification.
Inspector John Ramsbottom, heading up the Specialist Search and Recovery team for Thames Valley Police, said although the death was currently being treated as unexplained, there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
Officers conducted an exhaustive search in two metre sections of the river and described it as a 'recovery operation' earlier this morning.
Police said they were called to the area at around 8pm yesterday, following reports that the man had 'got into difficulties' after entering the water. The fire service also attended the scene.
The girl, who had been swimming with friends, made it out of the water safely.
It is understood the man had been out picnicking with his family amd friends yesterday evening when the accident occurred.
He is believed to live in the Cookham area.
