OVER 300 adults and children have signed a letter protesting about the handover of their green space to a housing association.

Residents in Buckingham Way, Flackwell Heath, are the latest to oppose the plans to transfer the land to Red Kite Community Housing.

55 pieces of land are being handed over as part of the sale of about 6,000 council homes across the district.

Tenants voted for the transfer earlier this year and it is due to be wrapped up in December.

The plots of land included on the list of 55 include open spaces and play areas.

Various petitions have been signed by hundreds of concerned residents.

A letter to Wycombe District Council chiefs from Buckingham Way residents this week read: “The green is currently used by the children and residents of Buckingham Way and surrounding areas to play on, walk dogs and for general leisure.

“Without the open space for the youngsters to play on, we feel that the community will be missing out and would feel aggrieved with it being built on.”

They have asked to be informed about the future plans for the space once it is transferred.

Housing bosses have insisted residents have no need to worry because the agreement with Red Kite guarantees the land must remain open to the public.

The spaces will be maintained and looked after by Red Kite, instead of WDC, which said they will be kept to a high standard and if anything, may be enhanced.

WDC has issued reassurances on fears about development.

Residents are encouraged to write in with their comments.

These need to be made in writing to WDC,Queen Victoria Road, High Wycombe, by Friday November 4.
