A NIGHTCLUB in High Wycombe has shut its doors after the company that owns it went into administration - costing the jobs of 20 employees.

Pure and Life on Mars is one of 11 clubs that will close after nightclub company Luminar went into administration last month.

The club, in Octagon Parade, is set to be handed back to its landlords.

The Pure and Life on Mars club today posted the following on its Facebook page: “It is with great sadness that we must announce the immediate closure of Pure & Life on Mars. This is not a decision made by anyone in Pure & Life on Mars, but by the administrators appointed by the banks.

"I would ask for your respect when posting any comments, please bear in mind that local staff have lost their jobs two months before Christmas. We would like to take this opportunity to thank every single person who has walked through the doors.”

The 11 closures will result in the redundancies of around 300 employees in total.

The other clubs set to close are venues in Brighton, Bury St Edmunds, Basingstoke, Wigan, Hemel Hempstead, Northampton, Mansfield, Redditch, Sunderland and Swindon.

In the meantime buyers are being sought for Luminar’s remaining clubs.

A statement from Ernst and Young, for the administrators - Alan Hudson, Alan Bloom and Tom Lukic - said: “The Joint Administrators for Luminar Group Holdings PLC and its subsidiaries have taken steps to close 11 loss making clubs as part of their ongoing strategic review of the business.

“The restructured business leaves a core estate of profitable trading clubs that have attracted interest from a number of potential buyers, and Luminar PLC’s remaining portfolio of night clubs will continue to trade as a going concern as the Administrators seek a buyer for the business.“
