THE landlord of one of Wycombe’s legendary live music venues is moving on to pastures new after a farewell blow-out this weekend.

Tom Alderton - who has recently changed his name from Tom Hart - will mark his last shift as landlord of the pub on Saturday night.

He said: “It’s been good fun - I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve made some good friends and seen some good bands.”

The London Road watering hole has long been regarded as Wycombe’s best known venues for live bands.

Over the years it has welcomed groundbreaking acts like The Sex Pistols and David Bowie.

The Jam’s legendary drummer Rick Buckler recalled playing at the pub during the band’s early years in a recent interview with the BFP. He said: “When we were playing all the clubs and pubs we could, we played at The Nags Head which was part of the punk new wave scene at the time.”

Mr Alderton restored its reputation as a music venue when he took over in 2007, after the premises had been run for several years as a gay pub, The Office.

Mr Alderton said he was moving on as the pub trade was facing tougher trading times.

He said: “All things considered, trade is not at its peak. We’re another victim of the current times, as such.”

“It’s a real shame, especially after almost five years of doing it.

“It’s been like one long weekend. The first couple of years were the Friday, the next couple the Saturday and the wind-down has been the Sunday.

“It’s been a roller coaster. There have been too many good memories to single one out.”

The pub will also be holding a farewell bash to mark Mr Alderton’s last weekend tonight.

He said he has no immediate plans at the moment but was looking forward to catching up with family and friends.

He added: "I'd like to say thank you to everyone for all their support over the last few years."
