CHESHAM's long-awaited £6 million 'Healthzone' finally opened last week - following the closure of the town's hospital in 2005.

Doctors' surgeries from Lindo Close and Gladstone Road have moved into the Chess Medical Centre, which opened its doors on Monday.

The centre on Berkhampstead Road also includes new treatment and multi-purpose clinical rooms, as well as a pharmacy.

However, it does not replicate all the services that Chesham community hospital had, with no X-ray department or in-patient beds unit.

Planning for the Healthzone began when the community hospital closed. It was initially due to open in May 2010.
