THREE more angry motorists have come forward to protest at being slapped with £50 fines at the council run car park behind Sainsbury's in Marlow.

Daily Telegraph journalist Lucy Cavendish, accountant Dawn Lashbrook and company director Sue Preece were all caught out during December.

The penalties were issued when the parking ticket machines printed a supermarket discount voucher first, separately from the valid pay and display ticket.

The machines were changed after the council was informed of the confusion being caused.

92 drivers mistakenly placed the coupon, which looked like a ticket, on their display.

The Marlow Free Press has appealed to Wycombe District Council to quash the penalties.

Mrs Cavendish, 45, from Skirmett, said: “I am appalled at the way the council is pursuing this utterly unfair charge.

“I use Marlow as my local shopping area. I support my local town.

“I shop there all the time when I could go to a shopping centre and park for free. Any sentient intelligent person would have waived those fines.

“Any decent, generous, sane council would accept the fact it was a genuine mistake.”

Stokenchurch resident Dawn Lashbrook, 52, paid up after her appeal was rejected but has been told she must pay the full £50 fine.

“I am absolutely incensed and disgusted by the attitude of the council,” she said.

“Like many of your other readers, I have used this car park on numerous occasions in the past, always paid my fee, grabbed the ticket, checked the return time, stuck it on my dashboard and dashed off to the office."

Stokenchurch resident Sue Preece, 50, Managing Director of UK Mats Limited, said: “I fully support your campaign.

“The council have refused to refund this charge, but I am so angry at their unreasonable attitude, that I fully intend to argue this all the way to a tribunal. It is so unfair and a complete injustice as so many people have paid up in good faith.”

Wycombe District Council has not acceded to the MFP's campaign but urged drivers unhappy over any fines to pursue the appeals process.
