A MUCH loved head teacher of fifteen years was given the star treatment last week as her school rolled out the red carpet to say their final farewells.

Sue Huntley said an emotional goodbye to staff, pupils, parents and governors at Holmer Green First School, after over fifteen years as head teacher.

Mrs Huntley, who originally joined the school as deputy head in 1990, has been responsible for introducing a pre-school, breakfast club, after school club and hot meals.

The fitness fanatic also set up a safer routes team and encouraged children to walk, scoot and cycle to school to gain stamps for their reward cards.

Last Friday, the school said their final farewells to the head with a big picnic and face-painting session in the sunshine. Staff honoured Mrs Huntley by performing one of her favourite pastimes, a Maypole dance and children lined a red carpet waving balloons.

Jill Mortimer who has worked alongside Mrs Huntley for over 20 years said: “Sue will be missed by all the governors, staff and in particular, the parents and children.

“Her ‘open door’ policy and a listening ear meant that children, parents and staff were always welcome to discuss their concerns and know that she cared.

“She will be remembered with affection for her loyalty, commitment and hard work, Maypole dancing, her keep fit routines in assemblies, her involvement in Race for Life and most recently the whole school ‘Sport Relief Mile and a Bit’ around the village.

“This will be a well-deserved rest for a dedicated and loved head teacher.”

Mrs Huntley is planning to spend her retirement walking, using the gym and spending more time with her family.
