VILLAGERS hoping to save a Bourne End pub from closure have lodged a bid to buy it as a community venture.

About 20 members of the ‘Save the Garibaldi’ campaign have chipped in to bid for the pub, which is being sold by Punch Taverns.

Punch has put the freehold of The Garibaldi up for sale for £425,000 - with an estate agent advertising its potential for residential conversion.

But more than 400 people have signed a petition against any change of use for the venue.

The Hedsor Road pub closed in the summer, but has since been temporarily reopened under a short-term flexible lease (see related links).
