A “very unattractive” and disused bank building could be torn down in favour of new homes.

Mr Sandy Mattoo, of Lloyds Bank, has submitted to Bucks Council a planning application for the old branch, on Church Path, in Stokenchurch.

Plans detail the ‘demolition of the existing bank building – which is not currently in use - and the erection of a pair of semi-detached three-bedroom houses’ – both bound for the housing market.

Four car parking spaces will be installed, and two cycle bays, and rear private gardens are also proposed.

“It is of a very dated design, the structure is in poor condition both internally and externally, and the building as a whole would generally be considered very unattractive,” a design and access statement reads.

A pre-application consultation in 2020 for a three-storey contemporary building was revised because, while it was ‘acceptable in principle’, concerns were raised about parking and the ‘mass and bulk of the second floor’.

“All the issues and suggestions raised in the pre-application consultation were accepted and actioned,” a design and access statement reads.

A heritage statement states the current building “does not contribute to the appearance of the conservation area”, and the new homes will “improve the site vastly within its context”.

The applicant is now awaiting a decision from Bucks Council.
